I hoped, irrationally, that the first piece would extend into a long-form piece from the old days, but it was not to be. However, that was one of my most favorite pieces from the evening. I thought that it was more &#8220;song-oriented,&#8221; by which I mean it sounded like Keith was composing songs in many of the pieces. They could have been standards\/ballads or bluesy songs at times. There were few &#8220;out&#8221; pieces and few, if any completely unstructured pieces.<\/p>\n<p>Here are my own, albeit silly, notes on the evening&#8217;s pieces:<\/p>\n<p>Set I:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dark Intervals<\/strong> <em>(reminded me of 1st track)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Song<\/strong> <em>(the most song-like, imo)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Ballad<\/strong> <em>(could have been a standard-type ballad)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Rio<\/strong> <em>(pointillist, abstract, short; stopped it short and told a story about a review of &#8220;Rio&#8221;)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Cure<\/strong> <em>(reminded me of &#8220;The Cure&#8221;)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Ballad<\/strong> <em>(another that could have been a standard-type ballad)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Pretty Clouds<\/strong> <em>(very beautiful, evoking flight)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Military Waltz<\/strong> <em>(not a very accurate description but I&#8217;m sticking with it)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Set II:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rainbowlike<\/strong> <em>(sounded in similar vein of Somewhere Over The Rainbow)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Romp Song<\/strong> <em>(Keith&#8217;s signature left-hand-type-romp)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Dramatic Beauty<\/strong> <em>(very beautiful)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>More Dramatic Beauty\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong><em>(very beautiful)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Break Bluesy<\/strong> <em>(a bluesy KJ signature with a break in the middle to tell story about playing one note vamps with Charles Lloyd)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>One Note Beauty<\/strong> <em>(keeping the theme of the story, a beautiful, ballad-like tune that focused on one note throughout, probably an &#8220;E&#8221;)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Encores:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fever<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Song<\/strong> <em>(was this a standard?)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>There is Power in Dark Beauty<\/strong> <em>(not a real title)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Somewhere Over The Rainbow<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hewins.org\/dhh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/b815698e8ed511e3855a126610d3d793_8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-404\" alt=\"b815698e8ed511e3855a126610d3d793_8\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hewins.org\/dhh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/b815698e8ed511e3855a126610d3d793_8-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.hewins.org\/dhh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/b815698e8ed511e3855a126610d3d793_8-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.hewins.org\/dhh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/b815698e8ed511e3855a126610d3d793_8-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.hewins.org\/dhh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/b815698e8ed511e3855a126610d3d793_8.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was joined at the Keith Jarrett concert last night by Tony and I thought it was very, very good.
